Written and video guides, as well as full-length books, about all aspects of living, working and doing business abroad. John works with lawyers, accountants etc. around the world to produce this information: his huge advantage is that he knows which questions to ask, and how to present the answers effectively.
2012-2014: Editorial Director, OPP Media (business-to-business overseas property news and features)
Responsible for editing and producing a stable of nine b2b print and/or digital magazines and newsletters aimed at the international property industry around the world. These include OPP (Overseas Property Professional) and OPP China – in Mandarin. Total circulation about 110,000 in 90 countries. Also partly responsible for the OPP Connect website; the OPPLive conferences and the OPP Awards for Excellence.
2009-CURRENT: Specialist International Legal Consultant, John Howell & Co – London and Bury St Edmunds (Suffolk)
Niche firm advising developers and private individuals (many of whom have been my clients for years) about development plans, rescuing failed developments and property investment opportunities. Duties included both advice to clients and the administration and marketing of the firm.
1996-2009: Senior Partner at International Law Partnership (ILP), formerly John Howell & Co – London
Leading specialist law firm dealing 100% with international legal transactions, mainly property related. Duties included client work, business and financial planning, regulatory compliance, managing a team of over 50 lawyers and supporting staff, marketing and a whole lot more.
1979-1996: Founder (later Senior Partner) of John Howell & Co – Sheffield
Specialist English law firm dealing mainly with civil liberties and social welfare law. Duties included client work, business and financial planning, regulatory compliance, managing a team of over 50 lawyers and supporting staff spread over 5 offices in Sheffield. John Howell & Co still operates (under the name of Howells) but John Howell no longer has any connection with it.
